Take all measures to prevent casualties

Bangladesh has called on Myanmar to take all measures to stop "any unacceptable situation" that might cause casualties in Bangladesh. 

Bangladesh accentuated its position not to allow any further infiltration of displaced persons from Rakhine and air space violations in bordering areas.

On Tuesday morning, Bangladesh lodged strong protest over the death and injuries of Bangladeshi nationals from mortar shell and bullets from Myanmar.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs summoned Myanmar Ambassador to Bangladesh Aung Kyaw Moe and strongly protested the incidents of firing of bullets and mortar shells from Myanmar that caused deaths, affected the safety and security of the people and property in Bangladesh.

The director general of Myanmar Wing at the foreign ministry handed over the protest note to Myanmar ambassador at the State Guest House Padma. 

The Myanmar ambassador was further reminded that safety and security in Rakhine State is of prime concern of the prospective returnees.

The Myanmar government should take necessary measures to improve the situation to commence repatriation at a suitable time, Bangladesh conveyed. 

Referring to the BGP (Border Guard Police) personnel of Myanmar taking shelter in Bangladesh since February 4, Bangladesh urged to take immediate measures to repatriate them. Bangladesh's policy of peaceful resolution of all issues was also underscored.

In response, the Ambassador of Myanmar assured to urgently communicate the grave concerns of Bangladesh to their authorities, according to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. 

He also reiterated his government’s position to take their Border Guard Police back at the earliest in coordination with the authorities of Bangladesh.
