Bangladesh Deputy High Commission in Kolkata has announced that it will soon open its first official visa application centre in Kolkata.

The announcement comes marking the glorious occasion of the centennial birth anniversary of the founding leader of Bangladesh, Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a press release said.

State Minister for Foreign Affairs Md Shahriar Alam said, ‘‘We are planning to set up separate visa centres, especially in embassies where there is an increasing rush of service-seekers. As a part of this plan, the high commission has set up a separate visa centre in Kolkata.’’

He said functions related to diplomacy and business are the main objectives of a diplomatic commission.

Bangladesh has diplomatic missions in 75 countries around the world, the state minister added.

The visa application centre has 10 counters for accepting all categories of visas to Bangladesh, including investor, intern, tourist, diplomatic, research, student, NGO, government delegate, journalist, business, employment and work permit, and tourist family, read the release.

The centre also has three pre-screening desks and two form filling desks along with two passport return counters.
