Bangladesh to stop giving 1st dose of Covid vaccine from Monday

In the face of shortage and uncertainty of getting Covid-19 vaccine from India’s Seram Institute, the government decided to suspend the inoculation of the first dose from Monday for an indefinite period of time.

The Extended Immunization Programme of the Directorate General of Health Services issued a circular in this regard on Sunday.

Earlier on Sunday morning, Director General of the Directorate General of Health Services, Abul Bashar Mohammed Khurshid Alam told reporters that 21 lakh doses of vaccine were supposed to come to the country in the first week of May.

Vaccine doses are drying up in the country amid the export embargo of India.

A note of Indian High Commission in Dhaka earlier said that Bangladesh will not get Covid-19 vaccine from India any time soon due to internal demand and crisis of raw materials in India.

The release mentioned that some key countries withheld materials needed for the production of the vaccine which has hit hard the supply commitment of the vaccine.
