The National Technical Advisory Committee on Covid-19 on Thursday apprehended a critical condition if the double variant of Covid-19 enters Bangladesh.
The committee said that both infection and death rates in India peaked at a terrifying rate after the double variant was identified there.
The committee in a letter signed by its chairman Mohammad Shahidullah asked the authorities concerned to ensure 14 days’ quarantine for the people coming from India.
It also called for strengthening surveillance at bordering areas.
The committee was of the opinion that any relaxation on restrictions regarding Covid-10 is undesirable.
The committee also noted that in recent past 10 people infected with Covid-19 came from India and they fled the hospital and went to different parts of the country.
Although they were taken back to hospital, the committee also called for their contact tracing and quarantining the people they met.
The committee also asked imposing travel bans or restrictions on countries having highly contagious Covid 19 cases and ensuring 14-day quarantine for people coming from those countries.
