In a momentous achievement, Bangladeshi architect Bayejid Mahbub Khondker has secured two gold medals at the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture.

Three other Bangladeshi architects – Mostafa Ameen, Iqbal Habib, and Ishtiaque Zahir Titas – also received honourable mentions in various categories at the ARCASIA Awards for Architecture.

The grand award ceremony took place at the 20th Congress of Architects Regional Council Asia at Boracay Newcoast Convention Centre in the Philippines, marking a historic moment for Bangladeshi architecture on the international stage.

Bayejid's accolades include one in the Industrial Building category and another for Socially Responsible Architecture, both bestowed in recognition of his exceptional work on the Greenfield Factory of Karupannya Rangpur Limited, read a press release.

Bayejid's groundbreaking architectural prowess is a testament to his ability to create designs across diverse typologies and scales, seamlessly integrating the unique essence of local culture and geography. His architectural approach is a profound dialogue with history, beliefs, and contemporary needs, making his work truly exceptional.

This outstanding recognition follows Bayejid's remarkable accomplishments in 2022, where he clinched the UIA 2030 award from the International Union of Architects (UIA), in partnership with UN-Habitat, for his groundbreaking project, the "Green Field Unit of Karupannya Rangpur Limited." Additionally, he received the 31st JK Cement Architect of the Year Awards (Foreign Countries Commendation) for his exceptional Aman Mosque project.

Bayejid, serving as the principal architect of Nakshabid Architects, boasts a distinguished career that began with a Bachelor of Architecture (B Arch) degree from Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology, which he earned in 1996.

The Greenfield Factory of Karupannya Rangpur Limited, situated in Robertsongonj, Rangpur, Bangladesh, stands as a beacon of Bayejid's architectural brilliance. In an era where industrial units often disrupt the delicate balance between humans, nature, and ecosystems, Bayejid's design for the main factory building fosters a harmonious connection between humanity and the natural world. It not only supports the local ecosystem but also addresses critical climatic considerations.

The overarching design philosophy embraces rural contextual elements, weaving in features such as courtyards, gardens, water bodies, traditional climatic solutions, and a commitment to preserving the rural essence. Bayejid's work exemplifies socially responsible architecture, demonstrating profound respect for both the environment and society.
