Bangladeshi architecture wins UIA 2030 Award

An architectural project from Bangladesh has won the prestigious UIA 2030 Award in Access to Green & Public Space category and two other projects got commendation in open category and Access to Green & Public Space category.

The International Union of Architects (UIA) together with the UN-HABITAT announced the laureates of the UIA 2030 Award at the eleventh session of the World Urban Forum in Katowice, Poland on Tuesday, reports ArchDaily.

The project “Co-creation of Urban Spaces by the Nobogonga River” in south-western Bangladeshi town of Jhenaidah implemented by the Co.Creation.Architects, the Jhenaidah Citywide People's Network, the Platform of Community Action and Architecture, and the Community Architects Network won the award Access to Green & Public Space category.

In open category, the project “Green field Factory of Karupannya Rangpur Limited” implemented by Nakshabid Architects secured commendation and the project “Revitalization of Rasulbagh Children's Park” implemented by Shatotto Architecture for Green Living got commendation in Access to Green & Public Space category.

The UIA in partnership with UN-HABITAT organises the biennial award, which is in its inaugural edition, to honour the work of architects contributing to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and New Urban Agenda through built projects that demonstrate design quality and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Seeking to acknowledge the contributions of architects to the UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development and New Urban Agenda through built interventions that demonstrate design quality and alignment with the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), this first edition of a biennial awards programme, selected winning projects from Germany, Hong Kong, Argentina, Bangladesh, and China, from 125 submitted projects in 40 countries.
