Bangladeshi calligrapher of Kaaba Kiswa gets Saudi citizenship

Mukhtar Alim, a Bangladeshi expatriate and chief calligrapher of the cover (kiswa) of the Holy Kaaba was granted Saudi citizenship, according to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper.

Saudi Arabia issued a royal order in this regard on Thursday (November 11), reports Saudi Gazette.

Several other prominent figures in the religious, historical, cultural, medical, investment and technical fields of Saudi Arabia were also granted Saudi citizenship.

Apart from Mukhtar Alim, other prominent figures were eminent historians Dr Amin Seido and Dr Abdul Karim Al-Sammak, renowned researcher Dr Muhammad Al-Baqai and noted theatre artist Samaan Al-Ani.

The list also included a number of distinguished figures in the religious, medical, educational, investment, digital, and sports fields.

Mukhtar Alim who went to Saudi in his childhood, has been in the profession of calligrapher for past 40 years. He was born in Rashider Ghona village of Lohagora upazila in Chattogram in 1962.
