A Bangladeshi youth was shot dead allegedly by Indian “Khasia” people along the Bangladesh-India border in Sylhet’s Gowainghat upazila.

The deceased, Kawser Ahmed, 22, son of Roshan Ali, was a resident of Bhogaiya Dakhshin Para in Bichanakandi Union.

According to locals, Kawsar Ahmed crossed the Bichanakandi border to smuggle Indian sugar around 9pm on Friday. At that time, a Khasia guard noticed him and shot him from a garden, killing him on the spot.

Another man, who was with Kawsar, brought his body home by a motorcycle.

Rafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge of Gowainghat Police Station, said, "We have received the news of the unexpected death of a young man named Kawsar along the Bichanakandi border. On information, a team of police was immediately sent to the spot. It is not yet known how the young man died.”
