The bank accounts of former Member of Parliament (MP) of Natore-2 constituency Shafiqul Islam Shimul, his wife Shamima Sultana Jannati, and all their family members have been ordered to be frozen.
The Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU), the country's central financial intelligence agency, issued a directive to all banks and financial institutions nationwide on Thursday.
The directive stated that all transactions in the bank accounts of Shafiqul Islam Shimul, his wife Shamima Sultana Jannati, and their family members are to be halted for the next 30 days.
Additionally, all relevant information pertaining to the bank accounts held by these individuals, as well as any organisations under their ownership, must be submitted to the BFIU within the next five working days.
The requested information includes account opening forms, KYC (Know Your Customer) profile forms, and up-to-date transaction statements since the opening of the accounts.
