The bank accounts of former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel and his family members have been frozen.

Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) – the central financial intelligence agency of the country – sent a letter in this regard to all the banks and financial institutions across the country on Tuesday.

The letter mentions that all bank transactions under the names of former education minister Mohibul Hasan Chowdhury Nowfel, his wife Emma Clara Button, two daughters Nina Emily Fawzia Chowdhury and Hanna Shreya Eni Chowdhury Malek, and their owned institutions must be frozen for the next 30 days.

That is, for the next 30 days, no transactions will take place in those accounts. If necessary, this period will be extended.

The BFIU has also sought various documents related to these accounts, such as account opening form, KYC and transaction statement, within five working days from the date of this letter’s issuance.
