After a six-day holiday marking Eid-ul Fitr, banks have opened today (Wednesday) amid nationwide shutdown to limit the spread of the coronavirus.

Customers will be able to conduct bank transactions between 10 am and 2:30 pm. And the banks will be allowed to remain open until 3 pm to wrap up their daily affairs.

The banks had remained closed from May 21. However, commercial banks in industrial areas around garment factories remained open on May 22 (Friday) and May 23 (Saturday) to facilitate the payment of salaries and bonuses of workers on the occasion of Eid.

The central bank took the decision also to provide cash through purchasing export bills with other activities in the interest of keeping the export trade active.

Aiming to prevent the transmission of the deadly coronavirus, the government on March 26 declared general holidays across the country. The holidays were later extended in phases.

However, the banks were kept open on a limited scale.
