Barapukuria graft: Indictment hearing against Khaleda Zia on Sept 1

A Dhaka court has fixed September 17 for hearing on a case against BNP Chairperson and Former Bangladeshi prime minister Khaleda Zia in connection to Barapukuria coalmine graft case.

Dhaka Special Judge's Court-2 Judge HM Ruhul Imran fixed the date on Thursday.

Earlier in the day, Khaleda Zia's lawyer prayed for more time in this regard. Later the court fixed the date for the hearing.

On October 5, 2008, the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) pressed charges against Khaleda Zia and 15 others in the Barapukuria coalmine graft case.

On February 26 of the same year, the ACC filed the case with Shahbagh Police Station accusing 16 people, including Khaleda and 10 of her former cabinet colleagues, of taking 159 crore 71 lakh taka in kickbacks on the Barapukuria coalmine deal which was awarded to the highest bidder instead of the lowest one.
