Bashundhara Group MD’s bail hearing not held
This notice attached to the door of the courtroom on Thursday said the court was not going to hear any anticipatory bail petitions until further notice due to the current lockdown and Covid-19 situation.

The hearing on the anticipatory bail petition of Bashundhara Group Managing Director Sayem Sobhan Anvir in a case filed over the suicide of a college girl in a Gulshan flat did not take place on Thursday.

The High Court bench of Justice Mamnoon Rahman and Justice Khandaker Diliruzzaman issued a notice, attached to the door of the courtroom, read, "This court has decided not to hear any anticipatory bail petitions until further notice due to current lockdown and Covid-19 situation."

Anvir's anticipatory bail petition was at number 14 among 15 in the day’s cause list.

Senior lawyer Mansurul Haque Chowdhury filed the bail petition on behalf of Anvir on Wednesday.

The Supreme Court reconstructed its four virtual High Court benches on Thursday. Chief Justice Syed Mahmud Hossain issued the circular without handing the benches a jurisdiction to hear anticipatory bail applications.

Police on March 26 recovered the hanging body of Mosharrat Jahan, 21, daughter of late Shafiqur Rahman, a freedom fighter of Monoharpur in Cumilla district, from a flat in Dhaka’s Gulshan area.

Following the recovery of her body, the victim's sister, Nusrat Jahan, filed a case under section 306 of Bangladesh Penal Code with Gulshan police station around 1:30am on March 27.

Nusrat Jahan accused Sayem Sobhan Anvir as the lone accused of abetting the death of the 21-year-old college student.
