Dhaka's Bashundhara Residential Area under Vatara police station will not be locked down as a red zone tonight (Thursday), confirmed Dhaka north city Mayor Atiqul Islam.

Earlier on Wednesday, an announcement was made in the area saying a lockdown will be enforced from Thursday midnight in order to contain the coronavirus spread.

The Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Vatara police station Muktaruzzaman confirmed this morning the area will be completely shut as a part of the government’s ongoing plan to enforce zone-based lockdown to curb the spread of Covid-19.

However, according to DNCC mayor, Wednesday's announcement was made due to some 'misunderstandings' regarding the instructions conveyed to the local authorities, which caused 'confusion' among the residents of the area.

That is why DNCC has made another announcement that the lockdown is not going to be enforced tonight.

Previously, the capital’s East Rajabazar area was placed on a complete lockdown from June 9.
