British American Tobacco Bangladesh (BAT Bangladesh) has contributed Tk 15.73 crore to the Labour Welfare Foundation Fund under the Ministry of Labour and Employment.
The tobacco company’s three-member delegation — Head of Human Resources Saad Jashim, Head of External Affairs Sheikh Shabab Ahmed, and Consultant Akhtar Anwar Khan — handed over a cheque for the amount to State Minister Begum Monnujan Sufian at her office in Dhaka on Sunday, a press release said.
Labour and Employment Secretary Md Ehsan-E-Elahi, the director general of Bangladesh Labour Welfare Foundation and other senior officials of the ministry were also present on the occasion.
In the last 10 years, the company has paid around Tk 85 crore to this fund, read the release.
In a statement, Saad Jashim said, "BAT Bangladesh has been working hand in hand with the government as a development partner. Our donation to the Labor Welfare Fund is a small token of contribution to that. If other private companies come forward, a better tomorrow that we dream of will be realized in the near future.”
