Bangladesh Bank has directed all scheduled banks to freeze the bank accounts of Foster, a payment gateway of e-commerce platform Qcoom.

BB’s Financial Intelligence Unit sent a letter to scheduled banks in the country in this regard recently, said a higher official of the unit.

Foster is a payment gateway of controversial e-commerce platform Qcoom which has been operating without a licence of the central bank, said the official.

The detective branch of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) arrested Qcoom chief executive officer Md Ripon Mia on October 3.

He was arrested in a case filed by a customer under the Digital Security Act (DSA) with the Paltan police station.

The next day, Ripon Miah was placed on a two-day remand.

Ripon in the primary interrogation confessed to not delivering goods of around Tk 250 crore in spite of taking the money in advance.
