Bangladesh Bank Officer’s Welfare Council has issued a legal notice to the physician and media personality Abdun Noor Tushar for allegedly defaming Bangladesh Bank officials on social media.
The Bangladesh Bank Officer’s council on June 1 sent the legal notice to Dr Tushar saying that Abdun Noor Tushar shared an article of the Business Standard title “Bangladesh Bank GM, DGM’s designation changed” on his verified Facebook profile on May 27.
While sharing the article, he used a defamatory statement: “A sheep is a sheep, whatever names you call them. A thief is a thief; whatever profession they are in,” said the notice, of which The Business Post obtained a copy.
The Bangladesh Bank Officer’s council mentioned in the legal notice to Dr Tushar that the post is still visible on his Facebook profile.
“We therefore on behalf of our client urge you to remove your Facebook post containing false and defamatory imputation under the title ‘A sheep is a sheep, whatever names you call them. A thief is a thief; whatever profession they are in,’” the notice read.
The council requested him to publish an apologetic rejoinder on his Facebook verified profile within 24 hours of receiving the legal notice.
