A Bangladesh Bank (BB) official died from coronavirus while undergoing treatment at a Dhaka hospital on Wednesday night.
Ashraf Ali, 60, a joint manager of BB, is the first official of the central bank who has died being infected with the virus.
Confirming the matter, Tariq Shibli, public relations officer of Regent Hospital in the capital, said Ashraf was admitted to the hospital’s intensive care unit after testing positive for coronavirus where he died on Wednesday night.
Earlier, seven officials of commercial banks died from coronavirus.
Sixty bankers have so far been diagnosed with Covid-19. Of them, maximum 30 officials belong to state-owned Sonali Bank.
