Bangladesh Chhatra League activist Gias Uddin Mamun has been arrested for criticising the relief distribution work of the local MP on social media at Nabiganj upazila in Habiganj.
The arrest took place after a case was filed under the Digital Security Act on behalf of Gazi Mohammod Shahnewaj, the member of the parliament of Habiganj-1. Zakir Hossain, the former Joint Secretary of district BCL and Habibullah Ruhul, an activist of Secha Sebok League were among the others accused in the lawsuit.
On May 1, Zakir Hossain strongly criticised the local MP for not providing relief materials to the people on a facebook post. Later, Gias Uddin gave a post on the third of May in the same issue. The posts were then shared by Habibullah on his facebook wall.
A strong wave of criticism against the local MP started immediately after these posts went viral. Then the lawsuit was filed on Thursday by Oliur Rahman Imran, who is the computer operator of the member of the Parliament.Gias Uddin was immediately arrested after the lawsuit was filed.
