The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has detained Jashore district unit Chhatra League General Secretary Tanjeev Naushad Pallab (35) while he was fleeing to India.

Pallab was trying to go to India through the Benapole check post with a passport visa at around 9:30am on Friday. When the BGB interrogated him, Pallab admitted that he was the general secretary of Jashore District Chhatra League.

Benapole BGB Company Commander Mizanur Rahman said, "We had received a tip off that the Jashore district unit Chhatra League general secretary would flee to India through this route.

“Based on this information, BGB members of Benapole ICP camp took up a position at the check post. Later, when Pallab went to immigration to get a seal on his passport, he was taken to the ICP camp for questioning. He was detained after confirming his identity. Legal action will be taken against Pallab after consulting higher authorities.”

Commanding Officer of Jessore 49 BGB Battalion Lt Col Saifullah Siddiqui said, “Strict vigilance has been kept at all borders. Patrols and additional BGB personnel have been deployed at each BOP post along the border.”

Azharul Islam, OC of Benapole Checkpost Immigration, said, “All passport holders going to India through Benapole are being interrogated by intelligence agencies, as well as officers in charge of immigration desk.”
