Belarusian citizen found dead in Rooppur Nuke plant site

A Belarusian citizen has been found dead in the residential area in Ishwardi Rooppur Residential Project Green city under Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant project in Pabna district Friday morning.

Confirming the incident, Ishwardi Police Station Officer-in-charge (OC) Asaduzzaman Asad told The Business Post that the deceased was identified as Ivanu Maxim, 51, an employee of contractor company Ruinwald at Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant.

Police sources said Maxim was in his room in the residential area last night. After he failed to show up at work at 7:00am, a colleague from the next room went looking for him and found him unconscious in his bed.

After getting the information, the project officials contacted the local police, who rushed to the spot and recovered the body.

Later, doctors came and declared him dead, suspecting a heart attack. The body was sent to the morgue of Pabna General Hospital for autopsy, said OC Asad.

Earlier in March 27, a Kazakh national named Vladimir Soviet was killed in the same location. His body bore several stab injury marks. Another Kazakhstan national was also found injured in the room and he was sent to Dhaka for treatment. Three Belarus nationals were detained in this incident.

In February, five Russian employees of Rooppur Nuclear Power Plant died within the time span of 11 days. It prompted the police to initiate a probe.
