Bangladesh Federal Union of Journalists (BFUJ) President Omar Faruque on Tuesday demanded formation of a special tribunal to try miscreants involved in vandalism and arson attacks on state establishments during quota reform movement across the country.

“Four journalists died, and 218 were injured in attacks by miscreants during the quota reforms movement,” he said at a protest rally of Dhaka Union of Journalists (DUJ) in front of the Jatiya Press Club.

DUJ President Sohel Haider Chowdhury presided over the meeting while BFUJ Secretary General Dip Azad, DUJ General Secretary Akhter Hossain, among others, spoke on the occasion.

BFUJ Treasurer Khairuzzaman Kamal, DUJ former presidents Kuddus Afrad, senior journalists Manik Lal Ghosh, Jayanta Acharjee, Jahangir Khan Babu and Jannatul Ferdous Chowdhury, among others, were present at the meeting.

Dip Azad demanded the government to punish the killers of journalists during the quota reform movement. He said quota reforms agitators vandalised many vehicles of journalists so they must be brought to justice.

Sohel Haider Chowdhury demanded compensation for the dead and injured journalists and protection for journalists. The leaders observed a one-minute silence in memory of the victims.
