The Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB), in an overnight drive, detained two people, including a Myanmar citizen from Sylhet border area.
“The BGB personnel detained Shafiul Alam, 55, from the Jaliapara area of Teknaf early on Sunday . . . 240 rounds of rifle bullets, one rocket bomb, two grenades and one compass in two separate bags were also recovered from the spot,” a BGB release signed by its Teknaf Battalion (2 BGB) Commander Lt Col Md Mohiuddin Ahmed said on Sunday evening, reports BSS.
During the interrogation, he confessed that the ammunition was smuggled from Myanmar a few days back. The detainee was handed over to Teknaf Model Police Station for legal action, it added.
BGB Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) Commander Lt Col Md Hafizur Rahman informed BSS that the BGB detained a Myanmar national, identified as Md Anisur Rahman, 20, from Jhingalabari border on Sunday.
An inhabitant of Maungdaw District of Myanmar, the youth entered Bangladesh territory about seven years ago and used to stay at Cox’s Bazar FDMN (Rohingya Camp) but he fled the Rohingya Camp in quest of a good job, the detainee admitted during a preliminary interrogation.
The Myanmar citizen was handed over to the Jaintapur Police Station, the BGB release added.
