BGB seizes smuggled goods worth Tk112.89cr in March

Members of Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) seized different types of smuggled goods including arms and drugs worth Tk 112.89 crore in anti-smuggling drives across the country in March 2023.

Sources at the BGB headquarters said the seized drugs include 9.877kg gold, 6.433g silver, 4,25,468 pieces of cosmetics, 5,711 pieces of imitation ornaments, 13,170 pieces of Sharees, 1,706 pieces of bed sheet/blankets, 7,413 pieces of readymade garments, 5,704kg tea, 90,634 kgs of coal, 871 kgs of nets , 4 trucks/covered vans, 4 pickups, 13 private cars, 27 CNG-run auto-rickshaws or easybikes and 61 motorcycles during the period between March 1 and March 31, said a BGB release on Monday.

In addition to this, the paramilitary forces also recovered two pistols, one mortar-shell, one magazine and three rounds of bullets.

Even the BGB also recovered huge amount of narcotics---which includes 2.97 lakh pieces of Yaba tablets, 17.567kg heroin, 21,158 bottles of phensidyls, 23,336 bottles of foreign liquor, 415 litters of local liquor, 2,696 cans of bear, 2,308kg cannabis, 1.90 lakh packets of biddi and cigarette, 25,718 pieces of stimulating injections, 4,185 pieces of contraband syrup and 68,553 pieces of tablets.

The border security forces also have arrested 191 persons who were involved with drug and commodity smuggling in the border areas and also arrested 77 Bangladeshi and other nine Indian citizens for illegally cross the border.
