BGMEA to participate in Dhaka Art Summit

The Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA) will attend the Dhaka Art Summit 2023, to showcase the transformation of Bangladesh’s garment industry.

“We will set up an art installation from BGMEA, highlighting the progress made by the industry, impact on society, and our future direction,” read a BGMEA press release issued Thursday.

The Dhaka Art Summit (DAS) is an international, non-commercial research and exhibition platform for art and architecture related to South Asia. This year the summit is scheduled from 3-11 February at Bangladesh Shilpa Kala Academy.

The installation that BGMEA will be exhibiting is titled “SEW (Sustainability, Environment and Women).

“We have conceptualised a tapestry in the background of the installation, where sustainability, environment, and women together draw the story of transformation and our future,” BGMEA President Faruque Hassan said.

“The world is depicted through a web of invisible threads that form the fabric of our individual, societal, and planetary existence. The fabric is so intricately sewn together that when any one of the threads starts to come off its integrity is threatened,” he added.

BGMEA’s efforts, vision and priorities will be portrayed through this art installation, the president said, adding, “As branding is a must in today’s world, I believe our presence in Dhaka Art Summit and similar platforms of international stature will help us change the narrative about our industry.”
