Biman to airlift 162 Bangladeshis from India on Friday

The government on Friday will bring back some 162 Bangladeshis stranded in New Delhi after Indian government suspended flight due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Md Mokabbir Hossain, managing director and CEO of Biman Bangladesh on Tuesday told the media that: “We have taken necessary steps to bring back our nationals from India after discussion with the government. Biman will operate a special flight on Friday to airlift Bangladeshi nationals”.

“The interested Bangladeshi nationals can purchase tickets for the flight until April 23 by using Biman’s mobile app or website,” he said.

According to the arrangement, passengers will have to bear the cost of the return journey.

Earlier on Monday, government managed to bring back 164 Bangladeshi nationals from Chennai in coordination with Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi by Boeing 737-800 ER aircraft of US-Bangla airlines.

Bangladesh High Commission in New Delhi on Monday in a statement said some special flights will be operated from Chennai in the next few days so that Bangladesh nationals stuck in India can fly out.

On April 3, the foreign ministry issued a statement, saying that nearly 2500 Bangladeshi citizens, including 1000 students got stuck in India due to COVID-19 outbreak.
