Bir Sreshtha Mohammad Mostafa Kamal’s mother Mosammat Maleka Begum passed away at her residence in Moutupi village of Alinagar union in Bhola Sadar Tuesday morning at the age of 96.
Selim Ahmed Liton, Maleka's grandson and nephew of Bir Sreshtha Mostafa Kamal, confirmed the matter to the media. He said Maleka breathed her last at around 7:40 am Tuesday.
Maleka was suffering from various old-age complications. On August 18, she was admitted to Bhola District Hospital and then was airlifted to Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in the capital on August 20, as her condition deteriorated.
Later, after completing her treatment at CMH, she was taken back to her village home, where she breathed her last.
She will be laid to rest at the family burial spot near her home in the afternoon.
Maleka Begum is survived by her other son, two daughters and grandchildren.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Tuesday expressed deep shock and sorrow at the death of Mosammat Maleka Begum. She prayed for the eternal salvation of the departed soul and expressed sympathy to the bereaved family.
