The High Commission of Bangladesh in Bandar Seri Begawan yesterday observed Sheikh Russel Day 2021 to commemorate the 57th birth anniversary of the youngest son of the Father of the Nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
The theme of the marking was “Sheikh Russel embodies lustrous cheerfulness and indomitable confidence”, said a press release.
The program began with the recital of Surah Al Fatiha and a brief prayer. Later on, a flower wreath was offered at the portrait of martyr Sheikh Russel. High Commissioner Nahida Rahman Shumona read out the messages sent on the occasion by the President and the Prime Minister of Bangladesh.
Marking the birth anniversary of Sheikh Russel, the High Commissioner briefed the audience, which included ambassador, academics, business elites, distinguished members of different communities, and a local non-profit organization, that Sheikh Russel was brutally murdered along with his almost all the family members on 15th August 1975 by assassinators.
Speaking on the occasion as a distinguished guest Brunei Legislative Council member, Yung Berhormat Khairunnisa Ash’ari, noted that she was deeply touched by the excellent art and musical performance of the differently able children of the La Vida. She added that children all over the world deserve protection and fostering. The tragic murder of young Sheikh Russel is deeply saddening.
