Local Government, Rural Development (LGRD) Minister Md Tazul Islam has said that registration of births and deaths is very important for informed policymaking.
He said this while speaking as the chief guest at a function in Dhaka Friday.
“The accurate population figure of any nation is very important. We can get that information only through birth and death registration services. It is not enough to know the total population, it is important to know the different age classifications and data. Information about the type of people, the age group, and the number of people that the policy is being taken for is very important in determining any policy,” he said.
“The needs of the elderly and the youth are not the same, and the needs of the youth and the children and adolescents are not the same. Birth and death registration data is required by the government to identify the needs of people of different ages, castes, and creeds and take action accordingly,” he added.
He acknowledged various problems in birth and death registration services and said that the problems have been identified, and now work will be started with the representatives of other relevant ministries to quickly solve these problems.
