BJMC staffs to get maximum Tk 54 lakh as 'golden handshake'

The Bangladesh Jute Mills Corporation (BJMC) has estimated golden handshake packages for its regular mills staff members ranging from Tk 5,00,000 to Tk 54,00,000  maximum which also includes gratuities form incentive on percentage.

Besides, it is also calculating retirement benefits for 8,954 staffs and officials of state owned mills.

Md Abdur Rouf, Chairman of BJMC, told Business Post: “We are calculating the golden handshake packages as per directive of a finance division committee formed in this regard.”

He said the package calculation will be submitted to the committee within a week and disbursement of fund is expected to begin from first week of next month.

Last week the government formed a 5-member committee to ensure the payment of salaries, allowances and dues to permanent and retired employees of BJMC within 15 days.

The 5-member high power committee is headed by additional secretary of Treasury and Debit Management Sheikh Mohammed Salim Ullah.

According to BJMC sources, the golden handshake amount is likely to be more than Tk Tk 6,600 crore.

Of the total, Tk 4,900 crore will be paid in cash while the rest of the amount will be paid in saving certificates.

Currently, the BJMC has around 24,846 regular (permanent) workers and another nearly 30,000 temporary workers.
