Mahfuz Sadique, the chief communications officer of bKash, passed away at Dhaka’s Square Hospitals on Friday. He was 40.
bKash authorities confirmed the matter, stating that Mahfuz passed away while undergoing treatment at around 9am. He had been admitted to the hospital at 7am after expressing chest pain. Doctors said he died due to a cardiac arrest.
Mahfuz leaves behind a wife and a son, and a host of well-wishers to mourn his death. His namaz-e-janaza was held after Asr prayers at Taqwa Jame Mosque in Dhanmondi. Later, his body was buried at Rayerbazar graveyard.
Before joining the mobile financial services company in 2021, Mahfuz served as a news editor and foreign correspondent at BBC World News in London since 2007. He also worked as a presenter and producer of Emmy and BAFTA awards programmes.
Earlier, he was assistant manager of corporate affairs at City Bank. In 2018, he received the Life Fellow Royal Society of Arts (FRSA) award. Mahfuz taught at the University of SOAS and Utrecht, while also presiding over conference panels at Harvard and Yale.
He was an advisor and consultant of the USAID-funded project FCDO. He has a master’s in public policy from King’s College London.
