Blast at Jhenidah court leaves one dead

An explosion at Jhenidah Chief Judicial Magistrate Court has killed one person and injured four others.

The incident happened at around 3:00pm on Sunday at the court's storeroom, confirmed Muntashirul Islam, Jhenidah superintendent of Police.

Three workers and a member of police are among the injured.

The deceased was identified as Shafiq, a resident of Kastshagra village in the Sadar upazila, adds UNB. 

Members of fire service and police rescued the injured after the blast and took them to Sadar Hospital where doctors announced one of them dead, said officer-in-charge of Jhenaidah Sadar police station Sheikh Md Sohel Rana.

District public prosecutor advocate Ismail Hossain said hearing a sound of explosion around 1:00pm they rushed to the storeroom and found everything in the room damaged.

Deputy Commissioner Md Mujibur Rahman there was a gas cylinder in the room and it might have exploded during renovation work.
