A court on Wednesday placed BNP Publicity Secretary Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Annie on a four-day remand in a case lodged for allegedly obstructing police from conducting their duties and vandalizing vehicles.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rashidul Alam passed the order as police produced Annie before the court and pleaded to place him on a seven-day remand.

According to the case documents, leaders and activists of BNP on May 23, 2023, brought out a rally in front of City College in Dhanmandi. Armed with local weapons, sticks, and crude bombs, they obstructed police from conducting their duties, attacked the law enforcers, vandalized vehicles and blasted cocktails. Police later filed the case with Dhanmandi Police Station.

Annie was picked up by police from his Dhanmondi residence in Dhaka early this morning.

Police arrived at his house around 2am and asked the BNP leader to go with them to the police station, said Zahir Uddin Swapan, chief coordinator of BNP's media cell.
