The body of a member of Natore district women’s badminton team was recovered from a private female students' hostel in Natore city last night.

The deceased was identified as Nusrat Maria Boishakhi, daughter of Rakibul Mridha of Bahadur village under the district's Singra upazila. Nusrat was a first-year student of the local NS Government College.

The hostel's residents informed that Nusrat had been staying in a room on the third floor of the hostel “Hafsa Chhatri Nibas” in Uttar Borogachha area of the district since last January.

On Saturday night, after receiving no response from her for a long while, students informed the hostel owner Habibur Rahman. Being informed, local police and fire service broke into the room, and found Nusrat's body hanging from the ceiling fan.

Mahmuda Sharmin Neli, additional superintendent of police (Sadar circle), said she has already visited the spot and the reason behind the death would be known upon investigation. Primarily, it seems that she died by suicide, the police officer said.
