Police have detained five people, including the boatman of sand-laden trawler, in connection with the boat capsize that killed at least 22 people.
Locals caught the boatman and two helpers of the trawler from Bijaynagar upazila's Char Islampur union on Friday night and handed them over to the police.
Main Uddin, duty officer of Bijaynagar police station has confirmed the matter.
Earlier, on Friday afternoon, a trawler carrying passengers capsized after colliding with a sand-laden trawler at Laiska Beel in Pattan union of Bijaynagar upazila.
At least 22 have reportedly been killed so far in the incident while many more are still missing.
Brahmanbaria Sadar police station Officer-in-Charge Emranul Islam said a rescue operation is being conducted to find any more survivors.
