Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has said that action will be taken against the respective drivers and passengers for breaching the country’s ride-sharing policy.
In a notification issued on Thursday, BRTA said action will also be taken against the ride-sharing company and the driver if they take more than the fare according to the policy of ride-sharing service constituted in 2017.
The notification said that as per the Ride-Sharing Service Policy 2017, a condition has been set to acquire ride-sharing enlistment certificate from BRTA and provide and receive the relevant services using the ride-sharing application and collect a predefined amount of fare.
However, BRTA noticed that some motor vehicle drivers are not abiding by the conditions of this policy.
“Contract-based ride-sharing services are being provided without compliance, and additional fares are being charged, contrary to the ride-sharing service policy. Customers are being asked not to accept contract sharing services on a contract basis without apps,” the notification said.
“In this case, legal action will be taken against the concerned ride-sharing service providers, motor vehicle owners, motor vehicle drivers and service recipients for violating the policy's provisions and charging extra fare, including operating motor vehicles on a contract basis,” it added.
