Dr Gazi Zahirul Hasan, a professor at the Paediatric Surgery department of Bangladesh Sheikh Mujib Medical University (BSMMU), died from coronavirus early Friday (June 12). He was 58.
He breathed his last around 1:15 am at the intensive care unit of Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH) while undergoing treatment there, BSMMU treasurer Prof Dr Mohammed Atiqur Rahman said.
Atiqur said Zahirul fell sick on June 2, and later tested positive for coronavirus.
He said the BSMMU professor was admitted to the DMCH on January 5 as his condition deteriorated where he finally lost the battle for his life.
His body was taken to his village home at Dohar and buried at his family graveyard in the morning.
Zahirul, a student of the 17th batch of Mymensingh Medical College, left behind wife, two sons and a host of relatives to mourn his death.
Earlier on June 5, Prof Dr SAM Golam Kibria, ex-chairman of BSMMU’s Urology Department, died from the Covid-19.
