Bangladesh Telecommunication Regulatory Commission (BTRC) Chairman Engineer Md Mohiuddin Ahmed resigned from his position on Wednesday.

Several BTRC officials confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

Mohiuddin stated in his resignation letter, “I have been serving as the BTRC chairman from December 14, 2023. I am resigning from this post due to my illness, and inability to perform my duties. I am willingly resigning from the position of BTRC Chairman.”

During the quota reform movement and one-point demand seeking Sheikh Hasina's resignation, the BTRC chairman faced allegations of helping the regime to shut down internet access across the country, on the instructions of former state minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak.

This issue had come up in a preliminary investigation.
