Budget speech prioritises saving people’s lives, stemming Covid-19

In the proposed budget for fiscal 2020-21 Finance Minister AHM Mustafa Kamal said, "In the Covid-19 situation, our maximum priorities of the budget are likely to save the lives of people and to flatten the curve of virus spread."

Besides, that the government is going to ensure growth of the economy to meet people’s basic needs — food, clothing and shelters.
In the speech he said, “Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina is meeting people of different sections of society every day to boost their morale. She believes in her heart that life is not to stop but to go forward. With her plan, we will start economic recovery from this budget again go to path of the development to keep economy on strong footing, according to budget speech.
Finance minister is supposed to place next budget at the national parliament on June 11.

So far 846 people have died of Covid-19 infections in the last three months, according to Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS).

Confirmed infected persons are 63,026 while 13,325 recovered from the disease.
Meanwhile, Prime Minister is leading the way in tackling the crisis caused by coronavirus. In the last three months, she has taken all the necessary initiatives for the people of all walks of life in the country.
In addition to its relentless efforts to ensure healthcare across the country, it has ensured food aid to day-labours and the poor. Besides, it has announced various incentive packages worth Tk 1,03,117 crore to continue trade and commerce in the country.

In the wake of coronavirus, the Prime Minister spoke directly from Ganabhaban on March 31 in a joint videoconference with public representatives of 64 districts, political figures and field officials of various government departments. In 33 days, the Prime Minister has engaged in videoconference six times and has spoken directly with officials in 56 districts.

She has also been coordinating field activities through videoconferences since the outbreak of the coronavirus. She gave 31 instructions on April 1, 10 on April 17, 13 on April 20 and 10 on April 26 on how to deal with the coronavirus pandemic.
