Bangladesh University of Engineering and Technology (BUET) on Tuesday observed National Mourning Day marking the 48th martyrdom anniversary of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.
In the morning, BUET Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Satya Prasad Majumder and Pro-Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abdul Jabbar Khan paid homage to the Father of the Nation by placing floral wreath at the portrait of Bangabandhu on the campus to observe the day, according to a press release.
Deans of different faculties, heads of departments, director of the Directorate of Students' Welfare, registrar, hall provosts, directors of different departments, teachers and office staff were also present at the event.
Later, BUET Teachers’ Association, different clubs, halls, socio-cultural organisations and general students paid tribute to Bangabandhu.
On the occasion, the Directorate of Students' Welfare at BUET organised a quiz competition, essay writing on Bangabandhu's biography and discussion in which a large number of students participated. Bangabandhu's biographical photographs were also exhibited by various clubs of BUET.
In addition, a special prayer was offered at the BUET central mosque for the eternal peace of Bangabandhu and other members of his family.
