Two people were killed and seven others injured when a tractor caught fire after being hit by a bus on Bangabandhu Bridge early Sunday.
The deceased were identified as Majnu, 33, and Nazrul Islam, 34, from the Dimla upazila in Nilphamari district.
According to the Traffic Control Room (TCR) of Bangabandhu Bridge, a passenger bus of Shyamoli Paribahan collided with a tractor at around 3:00am on Sunday, causing the tractor to overturn and catch fire. The fire left two persons dead on the spot.
The injured have been shifted to Tangail General Hospital.
Shafiqul Islam, officer-in-charge (OC) of Bangabandhu Bridge (East) police station, said vehicles had been cramming the highway since the fire broke out on Bangabandhu Bridge at night.
Traffic would return to normal as the day progresses, he added.
