Dhaka Sarak Paribahan Malik Samity has claimed that authorities concerned had verbally notified transport owners that they will be allowed to carry passengers at full capacity.

The association said that the verbal notification was received during an emergency meeting with Bangladesh Road Transport Authority on Wednesday, said a press release signed by the association's  Secretary General Khandaker Enayet Ullah on Thursday.

It also said that authorities concerned also asked them to keep their vehicles equipped with hand sanitizer and ensure that both staff and passengers wear facemask and staff carry Covid-19 vaccination certificates.

However, standing passengers will not be allow in public transports under any condition.

On Wednesday, BRTA Chairman Nur Mohammad Mazumder held a meeting with transport leaders and workers at the BRTA head office.

There, he said the buses would leave half of their seats empty in compliance with the health guidelines from January 15.

“No extra fare will be charged,” he said.

However, owners requested to allow them to carry passengers at their full capacity and vaccinating transport workers as soon as possible.

Mazumder said the issues would be raised with the Ministry of Road Transport and Bridges.
