The Civil Aviation Authority of Bangladesh has agreed to start air bubble flights to India.
The special flights are likely to start from Saturday and continue to operate till scheduled international flights resume between the two countries, said an official notice issued by the CAAB on Friday.
Biman Bangladesh Airlines, Novo Air and US Bangla Airlines will jointly operate seven flights a week between Dhaka and different cities of India under the current Air Bubble Flight Agreement, read the notice.
However, the CAAB proposed to increase the frequency to 10 flights a week from 7 that India's Ministry of External Affairs proposed earlier.
The flights will operate with 90 per cent of their total capacity with mandatory 14-day quarantines and PCR tests for travelling passengers.
Meanwhile, US Bangla Airlines in a press release on Friday said it was going to start operating flights on the Dhaka-Chennai-Dhaka route from September 5 under the Air Bubble Agreement following health guidelines.
The airline company will operate one set of flights each day every Sunday, Wednesday and Friday, reads the release.
Earlier on August 28, CAAB Chairman Air Vice Marshal M Mafidur Rahman told The Business Post that India's Ministry of External Affairs proposed to start special flight operations between Bangladesh and India from September 3 under the air bubble agreement during the Covid-19 pandemic.
