After the fall of Sheikh Hasina-led government on August 5, 626 people – including judges, politicians, police and civil officials – have taken shelter in cantonments throughout Bangladesh.

A press release, issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) on Sunday, further clarifies that due to a change in the country’s political landscape, ushered in by the movement of students and people across the country, law and order situation deteriorated greatly.

At that time, 5 judges, 24 politicians, 28 police officials, 487 policemen, 19 civil administration officials, 12 public university officials, and 51 of their family members were sheltered in different cantonments due to threats to their lives.

The release further mentions that as the situation gradually improved, 615 people left the cantonments on their own initiative.

Besides, 4 people have been handed over to the law enforcement agencies on the basis of complaints or cases so far. At present, 7 people – 3 individuals and 4 of their family members – are staying in cantonments.
