A case has been filed in the Maheshkhali Senior Judicial Magistrate Court on Wednesday afternoon against 29 people including former OC of Maheshkhali Police Station Pradeep Kumar Das in connection with the murder of Abdus Sattar of Cox's Bazar's Maheshkhali upazilla.
Hamida Akhter, the plaintiff and the wife of the victim Abdus Sattar confirmed the matter to The Business Post.
Five policemen, along with former Maheshkhali Police Station OC Pradeep, have also been charged. They are Sub-Inspector (SI) Harunur Rashid, SI Imam Hossain, ASI Monirul Islam, ASI Shahedul Islam and ASI Azim Uddin.
Among the 29 accused, Ferdous, 56, a resident of the same area, is the main accused.
The plaintiff in the case, Hamida Akhter, said that her husband Abdus Sattar was killed on February 14, 2017 at around 7 am with the help of Ferdous forces in Lambasia area of Hwanak. No case was filed in the incident.
She eventually sought attention from the High Court where On the basis of Writ Petition No- 7793/17, the judge ordered to treat it as 'Treat for Fire'.
According to court sources, the HC ordered the hearing of the writ petition filed by Hamida Akter on June 7, 2017. The order said, if Hamida Akter submits the statement, the officer-in-charge of Maheshkhali police station should accept it immediately. An application was filed in the HC on behalf of the Inspector General of Police (IGP) seeking revocation of the order.
On the other hand, an appeal was filed in the Appellate Division on behalf of the home secretary (Public Security Division) against the order of the HC. On May 13, 2018, the Appellate Division ordered the hearing of this application. The order of the HC to accept the statement without issuing a rule was quashed. At the same time, the writ was asked to be re-heard as a motion (new case).
Meanwhile, Advocate Rashedul Haque Khokon, who had filed a writ petition in the HC at the time, said, although the HC had directed the police to file the case, the HC stayed the order on the plea of the police IGP to stay the order.
