A murder case has been filed against 101 individuals, including ousted Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and AL General Secretary Obaidul Quader, in connection with the killing of a teacher during the student movement in Bogura.

The case was filed following the complaint of Sikander Ali, father of the victim Selim Hossain, 40, on Thursday night at Bogura Sadar police station, naming Hasina and Quader as the instigators of the killing, said Saihan Oliullah, officer-in-charge (OC) of the police station.

Selim was a teacher at Light House School of Learning and Diversity in Murail, Kahaloo and a resident of Palikanda village in Pirob union of Bogura’s Shibganj upazila.

Other prime accused include Mujibur Rahman, president of Bogura district Awami League and former MP from Bogra-5 (Sherpur-Dhunot), and Ragebul Ahsan, general secretary of the same unit and former MP from Bogra-6 (Bogura Sadar).

According to the case statement, at around 3 pm on August 4, the day before Hasina resigned and fled the country, a group of Awami League members, including the two former MPs, led an attack on protesters in front of IFIC Bank on Station Road in the Satmatha area of Bogura town.

The attackers used cocktails and petrol bombs. During the attack, teacher Salim Hossain was seriously injured.

Councillors Abdul Matin Sarkar and Aminul Islam hacked him with a machete, while Councillor Arifur Rahman beat him with a hockey stick. The attackers ensured his death by inflicting additional injuries with weapons, the case statement says.

This is the sixth case filed against Sheikh Hasina since her ouster. Other cases have been filed over murder, crimes against humanity genocide and abduction.
