Case filed against MV Moyur-2 owner, six others

A case has been filed against seven people, including Mosaddeq Hanif Soad, owner of the launch MV Moyur-2, which reportedly pushed another launch ML Morning Bird on Monday morning, causing it to capsize in Buriganga.

Some other unnamed employees of Moyur-2 have also been accused.

The case was filed at the South Keraniganj Police Station Monday night.

The plaintiff Shamsul Alam, sub-inspector (SI) of Sadarghat Naval Police, confirmed the matter to The Business Post.

The accused in the case are: Mayur-2 launch owner Mosaddeq Hanif Soad, staff members Md Abul Bashar and Md Zakir Hossain, engine driver Shipon Hawlader, driver Shakil Hossain, able-seaman (AB) Nasir Mridha and Hridoy, said the plaintiff.

According to the case sources, the case was filed under sections 280, 304(A), 437 and 34 of the Penal Code for killing people and pushing another launch by reckless sailing. Whether the incident was pre-planned or not needs to be investigated, according to the case details.
