The police have filed a case over the fire incident at Bailey Road’s Green Cozy Cottage that resulted in the deaths of at least 46 people.

On Friday late night, the police filed the case as plaintiff over death by negligence. The law enforcers are investigating the matter,” said Mohammad Salman Farsi, assistant commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna zone.

Meanwhile, Ramna Police Station Officer In-charge (OC) Utpol Barua told The Business Post that four people have been arrested so far in a case filed over the Bailey Road fire incident.

They arrestees are – Kacchi Bhai restaurant manager Md Jisan, two Cha Chumuk restaurant owners Anwarul Haque and Shafiqur Rahman Rimon, and the Green Cozy Cottage manager Bipul.

He also said they sent the arrested to the court and applied for a 7-day remand. Later, the court granted them two days of remand. This officer added that so far, the authorities have handed over 44 bodies out of 46 to their respective families on Saturday around 7pm.

A claimant for one of the other two victims is yet to be found. Besides, due to the confusion over the identity of the other deceased victim, the body will not be handed over without a DNA test. After collecting the DNA of the two, action will be taken according to the law, Farsi said.

Confusion over the identity of former journalist of the online portal The Report.Live Abhishruti Shastri, the hospital and police sources said that her father claimed that his daughter's name is Bristi Khatun and she is a Muslim.

But her friends and colleagues claim that she was known as Abhishruti, and claimed to be a Hindu.

Meanwhile, Health Minister Samanta Lal Sen said 11 people have been admitted to the Sheikh Hasina National Institute of Burn & Plastic Surgery following the fire in a multi-storied building at Bailey Road. Six of them are making recovery, so they may be released soon.

“As the condition of the remaining five victims is not good, they will be kept under observation,” he said.

The fire that broke out at Bailey Road's Green Cozy Cottage on Thursday night killed at least 46 people. Police said 20 of the deceased were men, 18 were women, and 8 were children.
