Forty-eight years after the killings of three freedom fighter military officers – Colonel Khandker Nazmul Huda, Sector Commander Khaled Musharraf, and Lieutenant Colonel ATM Haider – a case was filed with Sher-e-Bangla Nagar police station on Wednesday.

Naheed Ezaher Khan, daughter of Colonel Khandker Nazmul Huda, filed the case seeking justice over the killings.

Naheed, who was 5 years old during the killings, in the case statement, said while growing up, they came to know through their inquiries from her father's coursemates, colleagues and various sources that her father along with two other military officers was present in the office of 10th East Bengal Regiment which was then housed at the MP Hostel of Jatiya Sangsad on November 7, 1975.

About 20-25 misguided and undisciplined members of the Bangladesh Army opened fire on the freedom fighters while they were on duty, she said.

Major Md Asaduzzaman and Major Md Abdul Jalil carried out the attack and killed them at the instruction of then army chief General Ziaur Rahman and JASAD leader Lieutenant Colonel Abu Taher, the statement said.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police’s Deputy Commissioner (Tejgaon Division) HM Azimul Haque on Thursday confirmed the filing of the case.

He said that they have started an investigation into the case. “Three of the accused have already died. We will investigate who had what role and involvement in the incident. The charge sheet will be given to the court after completion of the investigation,” he said.
