A case has been filed accusing 10 to 12 unnamed people over the looting of Tk 11.25 crore of Dutch-Bangla Bank Ltd from a security company microbus in the capital’s Uttara.

Alamgir Hossain, director of Money Plant Link (Pvt) Ltd, the security company that was transporting the money, lodged the case with Turag police station on Thursday night.

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Additional Deputy Commissioner (Uttara Division) Badrul Hasan confirmed the matter to The Business Post on Friday.

He also said the police have recovered Tk 3,89,50,000 so far in the incident although DMP Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid, also the chief of the Detective Branch, told reporters that they recovered about Tk 9 crore a few hours after the incident took place on Thursday morning.

Badrul said they took seven people, including two directors of Money Plant Link (Pvt) Ltd, in their custody for questioning about the looting of money. “They will be released,” he added.

On Thursday evening, DB Additional Commissioner Harun-Or-Rashid told reporters that the Money Plant microbus had started its journey from Mirpur 12 in the morning and the robbers, who were in another microbus, intercepted it in Uttara when it was on its way to Savar.

He said there were six people in the Money Plant vehicle. “The robbers beat them up, moved four trunks of money to their own microbus, and fled.”

Harun said a DB team immediately went to the spot after receiving the information and patrols were conducted in different parts of the capital.

With the help of officials in various police stations, the detectives started working to recover the money and catch the robbers, he said.

The DB official further said the robbers had been following the company’s transportation of money for a long time, adding they were not armed during the crime.
